Pete Seeger kicks ass

My friend Julie (no relation) recently posted this on DailyKos, which got rec'ed all over the place. It's a video of Pete Seeger making a rare TV appearance on the Smothers Brothers show, plus a partial transcript of some testimony he gave to the Unamerican Activities Committee in 1950. There's also a link to the full transcript.

You can listen to him sing while you read the transcript. I recommend it.

Funny. A few days ago I was remembering that I was once (briefly) interested in folk music, but I couldn't recall why. All I could remember was "Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair" and the like, which has never been my cup of tea. Amazingly, I had forgotten all about the likes of Pete Seeger and Phil Ochs. (Granted, most of the folk music I remember fondly would actually be considered protest songs, for which there was seemingly little reason to consider in the 80s.)

Thanks, Julie, for the reminder.
